Old Forge and Thendara

Visitors to the area are initially greeted by the picturesque hamlet of Thendara. Originally established as a railway station in the late 19th century, Thendara is renowned for the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, offering vintage train excursions through stunning landscapes. The Moose River meanders through Thendara and Old Forge and offers miles of smooth paddling for kayakers and canoers.

After crossing the Moose River visitors find themselves in the village of Old Forge. Situated in the Southwestern Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, Old Forge is a beloved destination renowned for its scenic beauty, outdoor adventures, and small-town charm.

The Fulton Chain of Lakes is comprised of eight interconnected lakes nestled within the communities of Old Forge, Eagle Bay, and Inlet, NY. Named sequentially, these lakes pay homage to Robert Fulton, the visionary behind the steamboat, who once saw the potential for the area as a canal route. Starting with the quaint Old Forge Pond, linked to First Lake via a lengthy channel, the chain unfolds into what appears as a continuous waterway encompassing First, Second, Third, and Fourth Lakes, each separated by channels.
